Cryptarchaeodinium
From Fensome et al., 2019:
Cryptarchaeodinium, Deflandre, 1939b, p.145.
Emendations: Gitmez, 1970, p.246; Stover and Evitt, 1978, p.228; Sarjeant, 1984a, p.155–156 -- however, see Lentin and Williams (1985, p.81).
Type: Deflandre, 1939b, pl.6, fig.6, as Cryptarchaeodinium calcaratum.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Original description: [Deflandre, 1939]: (Translation: Stover and Evitt, 1978, p. 228)
Description:
Dinoflagellates with a globular theca, a helicoid transverse furrow and a longitudinal furrow encroaching on only about one-third of the epitheca and hypotheca. Tabulation. (a) epitheca: 6 pre-equatorial plates and 4 apicalplates. (b) hypotheca: 7 post-equatorial plates and 3 other plates of which one at least can be considered as an antapical plate.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Emended descriptions:
Gitmez, 1970:
Description:
Proximate dinoflagellate cysts, spherical, subspherical, broadly ovoidal or polygonal, with tabulation: 4`, 0-1a, 6", 6c, 7```, 2p, 0-1pv and 1````. Cingulum almost equatorial and slightly or strongly helicoid, laevorotatory. SuIcus generally broad, extending onto both epitract and hypotract. Apical horn rarely present; median and antapical horns lacking. Sutures in the form of low ridges, bearing crests of denticulate or spinous type. Archaeopyle formation, where developed, precingular and formed by loss of plate 3".
----------------------------------
Stover and Evitt, 1978:
Synopsis:
Cysts proximate, subspherical; paratabulation expressed by low parasutural ridges; formula: 1-?2pr, 4`, 0-1a, 6", 6c, 6```,1p, 1````, 0-3s; type of
archeopyle uncertain.
Description:
Shape: Subspherical.
Wall relationships: Autophragm only.
Wall features: Parasutural ridges low with spinose crests. Autophragm smooth between ridges.
Paratabulation: Indicated by parasutural ridges; formula: 1-?2pr, 4`, 0-1a, 6", 6c, 6```, 1p, 1````, 0-3s.
Archeopyle: Type uncertain, possibly (tAtP).
Paracingulum: Indicated by six rectangular paraplates.
Parasulcus: Longitudinally elongate area bordered by parasutural ridges, which may be subdivided.
Size: Small.
Affinities:
Cryptarchaeodinium differs from Acanthaulax in lacking ornamentation between the parasutural ridges.
