Domasiella

From Williams et al., 2017:

[Domasiella, Eisenack, 1969a, p. 111–112
Acritarch genus, according to Stover and Evitt, 1978, and Fensome et al., 1990

Although the "type species" was not validly transferred by Eisenack (1969a), the generic name Domasiella was validly published by that author, since it is based on a previously validly published species name (I.C.N. Article 40.3).

Type species: Domasiella discophora, Cookson and Eisenack, 1962b (pl.7, fig.17)]

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Original description: [Eisenack, 1969a, p. 111-112] (translated from German):

Genus Domasiella n.g.

Diagnosis: Body oval, relatively thick-walled, with a short, pointed appendage at one, the apical pole, and with one or two longer, full (massive) appendages at the opposite, the antapical pole. The ends of these appendages are usually thickened or developed into distinct discs.

Generotype: Domasiella discophora (Cookson & Eisenack 1962)
= Domasia discophora Cookson & Eisenack 1962.

Remarks: The similarity to Domasia Downie 1960 is only superficial; there does not seem to be any relationship, if only for reasons of time; especially since Domasia is more likely to be derived from Baltisphaeridium. The appendages of the Domasia species are hollow, threadlike and tapering; in appearance and structure they resemble those of B. longispinosum.
The extent to which a relationship with Ophiobolus O. Wetzel 1933 is possible is uncertain, since nothing is known about the formation of the appendix in Ophiobolus.
