Gippslandia

From Fensome et al., 2019:

Gippslandia, Stover and Williams, 1987, p.107–108.
Emendation: Sluijs et al., 2009, p.50.
Nomenclatural junior synonym: Neogippslandia, which has the same type. Özdikmen (2009, p.235) considered Gippslandia Stover and Williams, 1987 to be illegitimate because it is a junior homonym of Gippslandia Bayly and Arnott 1969; however, Gippslandia Bayly and Arnott is an animal and under the ICN it does not pre-empt Gippslandia Stover and Williams.
Type: Stover, 1974, pl.5, figs.4a–c, as Deflandrea extensa.

Paracingulum: Indicated by a smooth or sparsely ornamented, depressed area between two, parallel, equatorial rows of spines.

Size: Intermediate, about 65 to 80 µm in length.

Affinities:
Genera most similar to Gippslandia include: Apectodinium (Costa and Downie 1976) Lentin and Williams 1977b, Ginginodinium Cookson and Eisenack 1960 emended Lentin and Williams 1976, Spinidinium Cookson and Eisenack 1962 emended Lentin and Williams 1976 and Vozzhennikovia Lentin and some species of Apectodinium, the periphragmal ornamentation depicts the paratabulation, whereas on other species of Apectodinium and on Vozzhennikovia the cones, spines or processes on the periphragm are apparently nontabular.
