Original description: [Yu Jing-xian and Zhang Wang-ping, 1980]: (Translation: Suning Hou 2025):

Genus Hashenia gen. nov
Type species: Hashenia reticulata gen. et sp. nov.
Characteristics: The cyst has a 4- to 6-sided polygonal contour. The central body is surrounded by an outer membrane approximately 3–4 µm, with reticulate ornamentation. It features a cingulum and a slightly indistinct apical horn. Apical archeopyle
Comparison: The new genus is characterized by a central body surrounded by a thin outer membrane, resembling the genus Membranilarnacia. However, it can be distinguished from the latter by the absence of a cingulum and an apical archeopyle in Membranilarnacia. The apical archeopyle features are similar to those of the genus Canningia, but Canningia cysts lack an outer membrane and rarely exhibit a distinct cingulum, setting them apart.
