Leberidocysta
From Fensome et al., 2019:
Leberidocysta, Stover and Evitt, 1978, p.59–60.
Emendation: Pestchevitskaya, 2009, p.110.
Taxonomic senior synonym: Polygonifera, according to Mehrotra and Sarjeant (1984c, p.46) -- however, Lentin and Williams (1985, p.214) retained Leberidocysta.
Type: Cookson and Eisenack, 1962b, pl.7, fig.2, as Hexagonifera chlamydata.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Original description: [Stover and Evitt, 1978]:
Synopsis:
Cysts cavate, endocyst ellipsoidal, relatively thick walled, and ornamented with features of low relief; pericyst thin walled, commonly folded (consequently of variable shape), smooth or finely ornamented; paratabulation indicated by archeopyle only; latter apical, Type tA.
Description:
Shape: Endocyst ellipsoidal; pericyst probably ellipsoidal also, but shape varies because of folding.
Wall relationships: Endophragm relatively thick, rarely folded; periphragm thin, commonly complexly folded, and frequently torn and incomplete; pericoel normally in contact with endophragm only along archeopyle margin.
Wall features: No parasutural features. Endophragm ornamented with features of low relief; periphragm smooth or faintly ornamented.
Paratabulation: Indicated by archeopyle only.
Archeopyle: Apical, Type tA, generally distinct with discernible angular margin; operculum free.
Paracingulum: Not indicated.
Parasulcus: Not indicated.
Size: Intermediate.
Affinites:
The periphragm of Leberidocysta is thin and generally complexly folded, therefore varying considerably in shape. Because of its fragility, it is frequently torn, or it may be missing altogether. The periphragm of Craspedodinium appears more substantial, and its configuration contributes to the overall external shape of the cyst.
