Lotharingia, Below, 1990, p.20–21. Contrary to the opinion of Lentin and Williams (1993, p.405), this name is validly published since the name of the "type species is validly published. This name was not validly published in Below (1987a, p.57), who did not provide a description.

Cyst habitus proximate, cavate, acavate, sphaeroidal, ovoidal, ovaloidal, polyedrical, apical horn possible, dextral and sinestral halfs of epicyst nearly symmetrically; wall composed of pedium and luxuria, surface smooth or ornamented; non-, partially or completely areate; areation formula NR PR/Xc/cop, pop, cap, NR`, 4`, NR``/6``, NRc/Xc/7c, NR```/6```, NR````/2````, NRs/Xc/as, opercular plates secate, general opercular formula 2``s+3``s+4``s+5``s.
