[Luxadinium, Brideaux and McIntyre, 1975, p.36

Type species: Luxadinium primulum, Brideaux and McIntyre, 1975 (pl.12, fig.9)]

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Original description: [Brideaux and McIntyre, 1973]:

Description:
Proximate cyst; circular to subcircular outline, dorso-ventrally flattened. Wall single layered, smooth or finely sculptured. Cingulum visible on
the dorsal surface as a low ridge immediately posterior to archeopyle; sulcus rarely discernible. Archeopyle precingular, type 3P of Evitt (1967); operculum detached, simple, formed of three reflected plates, probably 2``, 3``, 4`` and with entire margin.

Modified description:

Stover and Evitt, 1978, p. 172-173:

Synopsis:
Cysts proximate, lenticular; autophragm without horns or processes; archeopyle precingular, Type 3P.

Description:
Shape: Lenticular; outline commonly irregular because of folding.
Wall relationships: Autophragm only.
Wall features: Autophragm smooth or finely ornamented.
Paratabulation: Indicated by archeopyle and, to a much lesser extent, by paracingulum; formula unknown.
Archeopyle: Precingular, type uncertain; operculum free, simple, composed of paraplates 2``-4``, which separate as an essentially elliptical unit with a small subangular projection in the outline along one side.
Paracingulum: Normally delineated on dorsal surface only by the posterior archeopyle margin and a low, narrow, transverse ridge also posterior to the archeopyle; rarely indicated by two parallel transverse ridges.
Parasulcus: Generally not expressed; position may be suggested by a faint concavity margined by folds.
Size: Small to intermediate.

Affinities:
No closely similar genera. Shape of the archeopyle and simple operculum are diagnostic.

Luxadinium Brideaux and McIntyre, 1975. Cysts proximate, generally bicavate or circumcavate, compressed, roundly peridinioid to subcircular; paratabulation peridiniacean, distinct, poorly developed, or absent; when present expressed by pandasutural areas and intratabular ornamentation: combination archeopyle types [tI3P] or tI3P. May be composed of up to 6 opercular pieces.
