Acritarch genus.

Tax. sr. syn.: Palaeotetradinium, according to Stover and Evitt (1978, p.70–71) — however, Duxbury (1980, p.134–135) retained Rhombodella.

Type species: Rhombodella natans, Cookson and Eisenack, 1962b (pl.7, fig.13)] ; NOW Rhombodella paucispina, (Alberti, 1961), Duxbury, 1981
The original type of this genus, R. natans Cookson and Eisenack 1962, is considered to be a jr. syn. of R. paucispina by Stover and Evitt, 1978, p. 71.

Description:
Shell flat, rhombic, with broadly rounded angles; ornament restricted to small areas adjoining the four angles; opening by means of the removal of the shell membrane at one of the angles, which, for convenience, we take as the apical one, along an almost straight line.
