Romanodinium

From Williams et al., 2017:

[Romanodinium, Baltes, 1971, p. 8-9

Type species: Romanodinium areolatum, Baltes, 1971 - however see discussion under Romanodinium areolatum]

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Original description: [Baltes, 1971]:

Description:
Test is subspherical with thin, hyaline outer cover, with no tabulation, and with rare, strong, generally longitudinal bending folds. It shows a polar, wide aperture with irregular edges. On the opposite pole, starting from the middle of the test, a wide membrane occurs which enfolds the whole test.

Stover and Evitt, 1978, p. 238:

"We are uncertain whether the opening in Romanodinium should be interpreted as apical (polar) or as precingular (dorsal)."

Affinities:
Regardless of how oriented, the specimens are similar to those of Thalassiphora. The membrane, however, completely encloses the endocyst in Thalassiphora, whereas in Romanodinium it appears to enclose about half of the endocyst opposite the opening.
