Original description: [Klement, 1960]: (Translation: Stover and Evitt, 1978, p. 241):

Diagnosis:
Shell compact-ovoidal, untabulate, without recognizable expression of girdle and longitudinal furrow. Apex without horn, more strongly curved than the broadly rounded antapex. Pylome trapeziform, convexly margined on all sides, in the middle of the dorsal epitheca and shortly beneath the apex.

Synopsis:
Cysts subspherical, autophragm with dense covering of short slender projections; indications of paratabulation lacking except possibly by archeopyle; archeopyle type uncertain, possibly precingular or intercalary.

Description:
Shape: Subspherical.
Wall relationships: Autophragm only.
Wall features: No parasutural features. Autophragm with short, thin, pointed spines whose bases may be isolated or connected by indistinct straight to curved cords, forming a punctoreticulate pattern.
Paratabulation: Not indicated except possibly by archeopyle.
Archeopyle: Type uncertain; could be precingular or intercalary.
Paracingulum: Not indicated.
Parasulcus: Not indicated.

Size: Intermediate.

Affinities:
Xenicodinium differs from Trichodinium in lacking an apical projection and indications of a paracingulum.
