Ocalasphaera
Ocalasphaera, Prössl, 1992
Acritarch genus
Type species: Ocalasphaera blindii, Prössl, 1992
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Original description: [Prössl, 1992]:
Diagnosis:
A single layered subspherical to oval acritarch with a wall of constant thickness which is always irregularly folded. The wall is smooth to scabrate and shows a thickening around the circular to subcircular pylome.
Affinities:
This genus is very similar to the genera Cyclopsiella Drugg and Loeblich 1967 and Nummus Morgan 1975. It differs from Cyclopsiella in having a single layered wall. In contrast to Nummus the genus Ocalasphaera possesses a wall of constant thickness without disintegration (Backhouse, 1988), even in badly preserved specimens, and in lacking an equatorial rim.
