Cassiculosphaeridia

From Fensome et al., 2019:

Cassiculosphaeridia, Davey, 1969a, p.141.
Taxonomic senior synonym: Valensiella, according to Courtinat (1989, p.182) -- however, Slimani (1994, p.98) retained Cassiculosphaeridia.
Type: Davey, 1969a, pl.4, fig.3, as Cassiculosphaeridia reticulata.

Original description: [Davey, 1969]:

Diagnosis:
Proximate cysts; shell spherical to subspherical, composed of two layers, without apical or antapical protuberances. Periphragm giving rise to low crests or membranes which form a reticulate pattern. Tabulation absent. Archeopyle apical with angular margin.

Affinities:
The surface reticulation of Cassiculosphaeridia is very similar to that of Ellipsoidictyum cinctum Klement (196). Both possess an apical archaeopyle, but whereas in Cassiculosphaeridia all signs of a tabulation are absent, in Ellipsoidictyum there is an obvious cingulum. Dictyopyxidia Eisenack (1961) is also very similar but possesses a cingulum and sulcus.

Modified description:

Stover and Evitt 1978, p. 25-26:

Synopsis:
Cysts proximate, subspherical; autophragm with low ridges that form a reticulum, latter not covered by an ectophragm; archeopyle apical, Type tA.

Description:
Shape: Subspherical.
Wall relationships: Autophragm only.
Wall features: No parasutural features. Autophragm with low ridges that form an imperfect to complete reticulum with mostly polygonal lumina; latter irregular in size and shape. Autophragm smooth to faintly ornamented and not covered by an ectophragm.
Paratabulation: Indicated generally by archeopyle only; formula unknown. Archeopyle: Apical, Type tA; principal archeopyle suture zigzag; operculum free.
Paracingulum: Generally not indicated, or indicated feebly by faint alignment of muri.
Parasulcus: Not indicated.
Size: Small to intermediate.

Affinities:
Cassiculosphaeridia differs from Ellipsoidictyum in lacking indications of a paracingulum and in having an archeopyle with a more nearly circular outline. It differs from Histiocysta in not having parasutural features.
