Vexillocysta colligata
From Fensome et al., 2019:
Vexillocysta colligata (Morgan, 1980, p.32, pl.29, figs.6–11) Duxbury, 2018, p.196.
Holotype: Morgan, 1980, pl.29, figs.6–8.
Originally Tenua Eisenack, subsequently Epelidosphaeridia, thirdly (and now) Vexillocysta.
Taxonomic junior synonyms: Sentusidinium cuculliforme and Vexillocysta retis, both according to Duxbury (2018, p.196).
The nomenclatural type of the genus Vexillocysta remains the holotype of Vexillocysta retis.
Age: Aptian–early Albian.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Original description: Morgan, 1980, p. 32: Tenua colligata
Cyst ambitus broadly elliptical; endophragm rigid, psilate, and ellipsoidal; periphragm granular, drawn up into very many short hollow processes; wall layers loosely appressed, separated beneath group of processes; periphragm processes short, 7-10 µm long and 1.5-2 µm broad, distally dosed and square-ended, proximally expanded so that three or four adjacent processes arise from the same small area of wall separation; paracingulum and parasulcus marked by a zone 6-8 µm broad devoid of processes, cingulum slightly offset at sulcus; processes otherwise non-tabular; archeopyle apical, accessory archeopyle sutures indicate six precingular plates and a sulcal notch indicating gonyaulacean tabulation; operculum free.
