Soaniella subglobosa

From Fensome et al., 2019:

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Original description Vasilyeva, 2012:

The name comes from subglobosus (lat.) – almost spherical.

Diagnosis. The peridinoid cyst is round, medium-small in size. The apical and antapical horns are absent. The periphragm is thin
and granular. The endocyst follows the shape of the pericyst. The cyst is aquatic. The paracingulum is flat. The position of the
cingulum is indicated by a double narrow sinuous suture with a sparse structure of the periphragm. The periarchaeopile is combined,
type A3I3P(3'+1a-3a+3"-5"). The perioperculum is free.

Diagnosis. Acavate almost round peridinioid cysts of intermediate or small size. Apical and antapi-cal horns are absent. Periphragm is thin, grained. Endo-cyst shape doubles pericyst one. Paracingulum is flat-tened. Paracingulum is indicated by double narrow suture of no gra
combinated, type A3I3P(3'+1a-3a+3"-5"). The pericyst is round, almost spherical, weakly compressed in the dorsoventral position. The epicyst is equal to or slightly shorter than the hypocyst. The apical and antapical horns are absent. Sometimes a tiny tubercle, a rudimentary protrusion in the area of the apical and antapical horns, is observed. The periphragm is thin, granular. Granularity is unevenly distributed. The endocyst repeats the shape of the pericyst. The cyst is aquatic. The endophragm is thin. The paracingulum is flat. Its position is indicated by a narrow double tortuous suture formed by the sparse structure of the periphragm. The sulcus is not visible. The periarchaeopile is of a combined type and is formed by precingular, intercalary and apical plates. Type A3I3P(3'+1a-3a+3"-5"). The perioperculum is free, its position corresponds to the middle dorsal intercalary plate (2a). The paratabulation of the cyst is indicated by the structure of the archaeopyle and the position of the cingulum.

Holotype. Plate 1, Fig. 19. Ref. K14/130–25B.

Location. Well K-14 (Komsomolskaya), Komsomolsky settlement, Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug, Russia.

Dimensions (μm). Holotype: pericyst length – 56, pericyst width – 56. Other specimens (7 specimens): pericyst length – 53–58, pericyst width – 53–59.

Comparison. Soaniella subglobosa sp. ov. differs from other species of the genus Soaniella by the spherical shape of the cyst, the absence of horns and a thin shell.

Distribution. Russia, Western Siberia, upper reaches of the Konda River, Nyurol Formation. Eocene (Ypresian-Lutetian).

Note: In some cases, the epicyst "cracks" into separate plates, collapses, so that the cyst looks destroyed.
