Tetrasphaera rara Gorka, 1965
Name illegitimate. Now Gorkadinium. Originally Tetrasphaera (an illegitimate generic name), subsequently (and now Gorkadinium. The species name Tetrasphaera rara is validly published even though the generic name Tetrasphaera Gorka, 1965 is illegitimate; see I.C.B.N. Article 68.1.

Original description (Górka, 1965):

Holotypus: Prép. Y7.
Stratum typicum: Astartien.
Locus typicus: Magnuszew, prof. 1331,2 m.
Derivatio nominis: Lat. rarus - rare.
Matériel. - Un exemplaire bien conservé.

Dimensions (in µm):
Diameter of theca without membrane 43.50 - Width of membrane 3.48 - Width of transverse furrow 2.60 - Length of spines 1.00.

Description. - Rounded rectangular theca, with membrane of the same shape. Transverse furrow and tabulation difficult to specify. Short spines on the sutures demarcating the plates. Theca and membrane finely reticulated.

Remarks. - Tetrasphaera rara n.gen., n.sp. does not recall any of the representatives of the dinoflagellates described so far. It differs from Palaeosphaerium infrequens n .gen., n.sp., described below, mainly by the presence of the membrane. Distribution. - Magnuszew Astartian (depth 1331.2 m).
