This name was not validly published in Wetzel (1932, p.136), since that author did not designate a holotype, a requirement at that time under the I.C.Z.N.

Triblastula utinensis O.Wetzel, 1933b, emend. Sarjeant, 1985b. Emended by Sarjeant (1985b, p.138-139) as follows, bicavate, spiniferate cysts, hercotabulate, and with a strong apical horn. Central portion of cyst broadest, enclosing the broadly ovoidal endoblast; apical portion narrower, minaret-shaped and prolonged into a blunt-tipped apical horn of moderate length; antapical portion again narrower and having the form of a truncated cone. Cingulum clearly visible, moderately broad and laevorotatory; parasutures otherwise marked by faint lines from which arise gonal and sutural spines. The spines on the central portion of the cyst exceed markedly in length those on the anterior and posterior portions (in some specimens, by as much as 3:1 or even 4:1); slight prominences may mark gonal positions on the antapex. Paratabulation gonyaulacoid; 2pr, 4', 6", x or ?6c, 6"’, 1p, 1pv, 1"”. Archeopyle single-plate precingular (type P), formed by loss of paraplate 3"; operculum free or attached. Size: overall length 100-130 µm, width 45-60 without spines, maximum length of spines 12-19 µm.

Hystrichosphaerids with tripartite shells. A sphericial central portion bears at the two opposite polar planes of its surface two hemispherical or cylinderical segments. Each, or at least one of these bears a large pin- or thorn-like appendage; in the place of the thorns a short point may be sited at one end. Moreover, each of the principal parts (especially the central) is customarily ornamented with a fur of bristle-hairs or spines; but the cover of spines may become pale almost to invisibility. Colour dark brown to light yellow.

Central portion covered with bristles, which are sometimes furcate and extending over the other segments. One of the two "pole-caps" is especially strongly formed and may resemble a round box, having a large terminal point with circular rows of small protuberances. Pylome-like openings occur.

A species of the genus Triblastula with epitract and hypotract widening in cupola-like form, long apical and shorter antapical horn. Girdle weakly spiral, its boundaries marked by strong spines.

Dimensions: Neotype: overall length 130 µm, maximum breadth (without spines) 50 µm. Isotype (in oblique lateral view): overall length 105 µm, maximum breadth (without spines) 60 µm. Range of dimensions: overall length ca.100-130 µm, maximum breadth (without spines) ca.45-60 µm, maximum length of spines ca.12-19 µm.
