Rhynchodiniopsis elamii
Original description (Horowitz, 1975) Translation PKB 2025
Holotype : lame P 354, Sondage Zohar 8, profondeur 2072 m, Trias superieur, Sud d'Israel.
Description: Proximate cyst of a dinoflagellate. Hemispherical hypotractum, conical epitractum, bearing a well-developed apical horn. Very visible equatorial cingulum, underlined by thick sutures. Tabulation of the Gonyaulax type, apparent but not prominent. Thin, strongly granular membrane. Blunt, long, sometimes curved apical horn.
Mean dimensions: 70 x 60 µm; horn 16 µm, 1.5 specimens.
Discussion: This species differs from other Gonyaulncysta species by the thick sutures of the cingulum and the other delicate sutures. It is very abundant in Triassic sediments.
Origin of the name: In homage to Sh. Elam, a friend and poet.
