Hystrichodinium compactum n.sp.
Diagnosis: shell nearly spherical, often slighly broadened laterally. Epi- and hypotheca well-runded at the poles, both nearly equally large. Transverse furrow moderately indented. With short, strong, distally blunted, rigid processes, especially at poles and along the edges of the transverse furrow, less numerous on the rest of the body. Body surface smooth, less frequently set with small tubercles.
Additions: For this species, the hollow, more or less rigid short processes are typical. The shell membrane is yellowish brown and transparent.
Affinities: H. compactum n.sp. differs from H. pulchrum Deflandre in the more spherical, often laterally broadened shell as well as in the short, rigid processes.
Dimensions: Holotype: L 63 Ám, W 59 Ám, processes 13-15 Ám. 25 specimens studied.
