Dubridinium ulsterum
Dubridinium ulsterum Reid, 1977
Holotype: Reid, 1977, pl.4, figs.46-47
Locus typicus: Ardmuchlish Bay, Oban, Scotland
Stratum typicum: Recent
Original diagnosis: Reid, 1977, p.453
Test circular to sub-circular with little to no polar compression. Cavate, inner capsule thin walled, with a verrucate ornament. Periphragm closely approximating to the cyst, supported by the verrucae and forming very slight ridges delineating the girdle. Lines of verrucae may also distinguish the girdle.
Dimensions: Holotype: Inner body 44x49 Ám Complete Test 47x53 Ám Range: Inner Body 35x37-44x51 Ám Complete test 41x42-47x53 Ám Number of specimens measured 15.
Original description: Reid, 1977, p.453
The test is circular in equatorial view with no polar compression but with slight dorsoventral compression. The inner body is dark brown with a thin single layered wall that is ornamented by strings of solid verrucae. The verrucae give the edge of the archeopyle a serrated outline. Folds marking the position of the flagellar pore scars are clear under phase contrast. The girdle is circular and slightly excavated dividing the epitract and hypotract into two equal halves. Tabulation was not observed. The archeopyle is epitractal splitting the cyst into two gaping halves which remain attached ventrally.
Affinities:
Reid, 1977, p.454: D. ulsterum differs from other species of Dubridinium in its irregular equatorial shape, size and strings of solid verrueate proeesses.
