Dubridinium cassiculum

Dubridinium cassiculum Reid, 1977

Holotype: Reid, 1977, pl.4, figs.42-43
Locus typicus: Lytham St. Annes, England
Stratum typicum: Recent

Original diagnosis: Reid, 1977, p.452
Cavate circular to sub-circular cysts usually with polar compresslon. Inner body thick walled, smooth, covered by a closely attached periphragm which is folded into a reticulum with laminae 2 Ám wide giving the surface a fenestrate appearance. Folds in the periphragm outline the girdle and ventral sulcus. Spaced granae may also delineate the girdle.
Dimensions: Holotype: Inner capsule 32 X 33 Ám. Complete test 33 X 41 Ám Range: Inner capsule 24x30-33x42 Ám. Complete test 24x35-35x47 Ám. Number of specimens measured 14.

Original description: Reid, 1977, p.452-453
The inner body is yellow-brown and the periphragm brown in colour respectively. The periphragm may at times form a bulbous apical expansion. The girdle is excavated, circular and not displaced and the epitract and hypotract are of equal size. No tabulation was observed. The ventral sulcus is very narrow and does not extend to the centre of the hypotract. An arc-shaped thickening of the wall forms the flagellar pore scar.

Affinities:
Reid, 1977, p.453: This species is only found in small numbers. It differs from other species of this genus in the smooth, thick walled nature of the inner capsule and the reticulations of the periphragm.
