Subtilisphaera perlucida

Subtilisphaera perlucida (Alberti, 1959b, p.102, pl.9, figs.16–17) Jain and Millepied, 1973, p.27.

Holotype: Alberti, 1959b, pl.9, fig.16.
Originally Deflandrea, subsequently (and now) Subtilisphaera.
Taxonomic junior synonyms: Deflandrea (as Subtilisphaera) pirnaensis, according to Fensome et al. (2009, p.60); and by implication Scriniodinium cooksoniae, which Sarjeant and Anderson (1969, p.32–33) considered to be a taxonomic junior synonym of Deflandrea (subsequently Subtilisphaera) pirnaensis; Deflandrea (now Subtilisphaera) rotundata, according to Davey (1974, p.65) — however, Lentin and Williams (1976, p.119) retained Deflandrea (as and now Subtilisphaera) rotundata.
Age: late Barremian.

Subtilisphaera perlucida (Alberti, 1959b) Jain and Millepied, 1973. This species has an ovoidal pericyst, with domed epicyst with a short more or less pointed apical horn. The epi- and hypocyst are about equal in size. There is one antapical horn. There is a well marked cingulum and a faint sulcus. There is a somewhat rounded to slightly oval endocyst. The wall is smooth. Size: overall length 72-76 µm, width 50-54 µm, Holotype: length of endocyst 48 µm, width 46 µm.

Original diagnosis: Alberti, 1959, p.102: Deflandrea perlucida
Shell approximately oval, epitheca spherical, with a small apical horn.
Epi- and hypotheca almost equal in size. Only an antapical horn lateral on the hypotheca. Transverse furrow moderate to sharply deepened, longitudinal furrow uncertain. Always with a ¦ closely separated rounded, rarely oval inner capsule. Shell membrane crystal clear. Dimensions: Range: length: 72-76µ; width: 50-54µ. Addition: Characteristic for the species is the approximately oval outline of the shell. An archaeopyle was not discovered yet. The dark coloured inner capsule clearly contrasts with the shell membrane.

Affinities:
Alberti 1959, p. 102: Deflandrea perlucida
Deflandrea perlucida differs from Deflandrea acuminata Cookson and Eisenack in possessing a different inner capsule. It differs from all other species of the genus in the oval outline of the shell and in possessing a crystal clear membrane.
