Lentinia orei

Lentinia orei Jan du Chêne and Adediran, 1985

Now Senegalinium. Originally Lentinia, subsequently (and now) Senegalinium.

Holotype: Jan du Chêne and Adediran, 1985, pl.1, fig.3
Locus typicus: Benin-Ore Highway, Km 41, Nigeria
Stratum typicum: Late Palaeocene-Early Eocene

Original description: Jan du Chêne and Adediran, 1985, p. 29
Cyst proximate, cornucavate with a typically peridinoid shape, prolonged into one short, pointed apical hom and two longer symmetrically-located, antapical homs of more or less equal length. The endophragrn is pentagonal and closely appressed to the periphragm except at the bases of the apical and antapical homs. The pericoels are extremely reduced; the endocyst may protrude slightly into the antapical homs. The periphragm is irregularly granulate. The characteristic penitabular omamentation is difficult to observe. The paracingulum is well defined and is interrupted by the parasulcal furrow. The periarcheopyle is of hexa-type and corresponds to the 2a paraplate. The operculum is free but may remain adherent to the cyst on some specimens. Dimensions: Range Overall length 82-100 Ám Overall width 50-64 Ám Number of specimens measured: 4.

Affinities:
Jan du Chêne and Adediran, 1985 , p. 29: Bujak (1980) attributed two species to his genus: Lentinia serrata which shows a coarse denticulate omamentation absent in our specimens, and Lentinia wetzelii which has a pericyst with similar breadth in the precingular, cingular and postcingular area. The pericoels are much larger in L. wetzelii than in L. serrata and L. orei.
