From Fensome et al., 2019:
Xenicodinium delicatum Hultberg, 1985c, p.157, pl.12, figs.J–K.
Holotype: Hultberg, 1985c, pl.12, figs.J–K.
Locus typicus: Limhamn area, southern Sweden
Stratum typicum: Late Danian
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Original description: Hultberg, 1985:
Proximate cyst, composed of endophragm and periphragm, closely appressed. The surface of the endophragm is smooth. The surface of the periphragm is covered with extremely short spines. Both endophragm and periphragm are very thin. The shape of the cyst is distinctly ellipsoidal. No trace of paratabulation is present, except the archeopyle.
The archeopyle is precingular, type P, formed by the detachment of paraplate 3"". Operculum free.
Paracingulum and parasulcus are not indicated.
Dimension/Size: 40-48 µm (diameter).
Affinities:
Xenicodinium delicatum can be clearly distinguished from other species of Xenicodinium by its ellipsoidal shape, thin endophragm and periphragm, and the characteristic acuminate spines.
