Original description: [Islam, 1983, p. 82]:

Diagnosis:
Cyst peridinioid, roundish pentagonal, proximochorate, acavate or slightly cornucavate and biphragmal; periphragm psilate to chagrinate; possesses numerous nontabular processes, slender to somewhat flexible, solid or thinly tubular when distally open, both types distally aculeate and present on same specimens; processes more densely concentrated at the apical, two paracingular and two antapical areas and sometimes partially proximally joined by membrane, any horns otherwise absent;
archeopyle quadra-style intercalary type I/I.

Dimensions:
Holotype: cyst body 63 x 65 µm, length of processes 14-16 µm.
Range: cyst length 49(56)65 µm, breadth 47(55)65 µm, length of processes 5-16 µm.

Affinities:
This species differs from other species of the genus in possessing relatively denser concentration of processes at five critical corners of the cyst. The Baughurst forms are generally smaller than the Shapley Heath forms.
