Original description: [Stover, 1977, p. 72]:

Description:
Cysts are subspherical, however, their shape is commonly modified by folding.
Autophragm is thin, about 0.5 µm, with slender, hairlike projections that are 3 to 8 µm long, closely spaced, and evenly distributed.
Archeopyle is apical, type A, and its principal suture is moderately angular; short accessory archeopyle sutures are occasionally present between precingular paraplates. Operculum is free, large relative to cyst diameter, and its constituent apical paraplates are not differentiated on opercular surface.
Paratabulation indicated by archeopyle only, and indications of paracingulum and parasulcus are absent.

Dimensions:
Overall size 41 to 49 µm.

Affinities:
Batiacasphaera micropapillata differs from B. hirsuta by having small papillae, granules or microreticulation on the autophragm rather than slender, hairlike projections. Most specimens of B. micropapillata are smaller than those of B. hirsuta.
