Canningia senonica
From Fensome et al., 2019:
Canningia senonica Clarke and Verdier, 1967, p.20–21, pl.1, figs.12–14; text-fig.7.
Holotype: Clarke and Verdier, 1967, pl.1, fig.12; Fensome et al., 2019a, fig.13R.
Taxonomic senior synonym: Canningia reticulata, according to Santos et al. (2018, p.165).
Age: Santonian.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Original description: [Clarke and Verdier, 1967, p.21]:
Diagnosis:
A species of Canningia with a small apical and frequently two small antapical protrusions. The sculpture consists of a fine, irregular reticulum.
Description:
Shape of body rounded with small apical and sometimes antapical protrusions.
The apical archaeopyle is well displayed on most specimens which are incomplete having lost their apical part.
Sculpture of thin irregular processes up to 12 µm long which join distally to form an incomplete and irregular reticulum; the sculpture completely covers the body.
Dimensions:
Range: overall length 60-85 µm, overall breadth 50-70 µm, process length 6-12 µm.
Affinities:
C. senonica differs from C. reticulata in the possession of a higher reticulum, from C. colloveri and C. ringnesii in the presence of a reticulum, from C. rotundata in the absence of discrete processes.
