Canningia xinjiangensis

Canningia xinjiangensis, Chen et al., 1988, p.16. Holotype: Yu Jingxian and Zhang Wangping, 1980, pl.2, fig.1. Substitute name for Hashenia reticulata Yu Jingxian and Zhang Wangping, 1980, p.107, pl.1, fig.17; pl.2, figs.1–2; the name Canningia reticulata is preoccupied. Taxonomic senior synonym: Canningia reticulata, according to Fensome et al. (2019a, p.29). Age: Turonian–Maastrichtian.

Original description (translation Suning Hou 2025):

Hashenia reticulata gen. et sp. nov.
Holotype: slide W3–9p, Plate II, Figure 1
Description: The cyst measures 53.1–89.7 µm in length, with the holotype being 89.7 µm long. The width ranges from 43 to 73.6 µm, with the holotype being 73.6 µm wide.
The cyst is quadrilateral to hexagonal in shape, with the central body nearly circular to quadrilateral, surrounded by an outer membrane approximately 3–4.6µm wide. The outer membrane is composed of elongated reticulate meshes. The wall of the central body is thicker than the outer membrane.
A cingulum is present, narrow and slightly helical, dividing the cyst into upper and lower parts, with the upper part being slightly larger than the lower part. The apical horn is distinct or indistinct, formed by the protrusion of the outer membrane, and contains the apical archeopyle. The tabulation pattern is unclear.
Stratigraphy: Upper part of the Uyitak Formation-Kukbay Formation and the Yigeziya Formation乌依塔克组-库克拜组上部和依格孜牙组
