Cannosphaeropsis pulchra
From Fensome et al., 2019:
Cannosphaeropsis pulchra Alberti, 1961, p.37, pl.10, fig.5. Holotype: Alberti, 1961, pl.10, fig.5. Originally Cannosphaeropsis,
subsequently (and now) Cannosphaeropsis?. Questionable assignment: Stover and Evitt (1978, p.144) as a problematic species. Age: Coniacian.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Original description: [Alberti, 1961]:
Cannosphaeropsis pulchra n. sp.
Plate 10 Fig. 5
Holotype: The specimen preserved in specimen no. 12/4 W. R. and shown on Plate 10 Fig. 5.
Locus typicus: Weißwasser-Rietschen bore.
Stratum typicalum: Coniac.
Diagnosis: Shell approximately spherical. With radially positioned, funnel-like appendages, the walls of which are slashed and consist of individual, long, distally forked or branched processes. Their free ends are pointed. Some of them are connected by tangentially running thin "strands."
Notes: The appendages are relatively thin below their funnel-like expansion. Characteristic of the species is the disintegration of the "funnel wall" into individual processes; This slashing distinguishes it from C. aemula (Defl.), whose upper edge of the appendages is usually closed.
Dimensions of the holotype: Shell diameter 72 μ, length of the appendages approximately 35 μ.
Material: 2 specimens.
Occurrence: Coniacea of the Weißwasser-Rietschen borehole.
