Rhombodinium glabrum ssp. crassithecum
Rhombodinium glabrum "subsp. crassithecum" (Vozzhennikova, 1967, p.170, pl.91, figs.1–2,4–6) Lentin and Williams, 1973, p.120.
NOW Petalodinium crassithecum. Originally Rhombodinium glabrum forma crassithecum, subsequently Rhombodinium glabrum subsp. crassithecum, thirdly (and now) Petalodinium crassithecum. According to Lentin and Vozzhennikova (1990, p.76), no potential lectotype is available. These authors recommended that this name be restricted to the type.
Holotype: Vozzhennikova, 1967, pl.91, fig.1; Lentin and Vozzhennikova, 1990, text-fig.40; lost according to Lentin and Vozzhennikova (1990, p.76).
Age: late Eocene–early Oligocene.
Original description: Vozzhennikova, 1967, p.170: Rhombodinium glabrum forma crassithecum
Epitheca triangular with straight sides and with an attenuated bluntly rounded apical horn. Hypotheca with two antapical horns, one larger than the other, acute ended. The other horn is in the form of a small angular outgrowth which is bluntly truncated. Lateral horns small with an indentation at the free end corresponding to the transverse furrow. Internal body spherical, with its wall of variable thickness and its surface finely or coarsely granular. Theca colored, thick walled with a smooth or granular surface. Pylome trapeziform.
