Originally Galea (an illegitimate generic name), subsequently Baltisphaeridium, thirdly Chiropteridium?, fourthly Hystrichosphaeridium?.
Tax. jr. synonym of Spiniferites ramosus (Ehrenberg, 1838) Loeblich Jr. and Loeblich III, 1966, according to Sarjeant, 1983.
At the time of the transfer, Lentin and Williams, 1973, questionably included the species in Chiropteridium.
