Original description as Gardodinium elongatum: [Singh, 1971, p. 379-380]:

Description:
Test dorsoventrally flattened; body elongate-oval in outline; apical horn about 8 to 10 µm wide and more than 1/2 of the length of the body; tip of the apical horn open; overall length of the test always more than twice its breadth;
cingulum distinct, bordered on either side by a row of closely-spaced, slender processes;
some specimens showing sulcus on epitract and hypotract;
inner capsule ornamented by numerous short, slender, equal processes; tips of the processes bifurcate and supporting the outer body wall; inner capsule with a prominent, knoblike protrusion projecting into the base of the apical horn; tip of the knoblike protrusion bearing two to three, up to 20 µm long, threadlike, flexuous septae; outer body wall membranous and hyaline.

Dimensions:
Size range: Total length of the test, including the apical horn (2 specimens) 94(96)98 µm. Holotype 98 µm. Total breadth of the test, including the processes (2 specimens) 35(40.5)46 µm. Holotype 46 µm. Length of the body (2 specimens) 66(67)68 µm. Holotype 68 µm. Length of the apical horn (2 specimens) 35(36)37 µm. Holotype 37 µm. Length of the processes (2 specimens) 2(3)4 µm. Holotype 2 to 4 µm.

Affinities:
Gardodinium elongatum differs from all the described species of the genus Gardodinium Alberti, 1961, in having a very elongate and narrow test.
