Holotype: Alberti, 1961, pl.4, fig.13. Originally Circulodinium, subsequently Cyclonephelium (combination not validly published).
Taxonomic senior synonym: Cyclonephelium (now Circulodinium) distinctum, according to Millioud (1969, p.427) and Fensome et al. (2019a, p.37).
Age: late Barremian.

Description:
Shell flattened, outline nearly circular, small apical protrusion. Hypotheca at the apex slightly indented resulting in two good developed antapical bulges, one may be reduced. Surface of shell covered with numerous short spines, central parts of dorsal and ventral sides and antapical indentation smooth.
Membrane yellow-brown and transparent. Spines may be connected at the bases.

Dimensions:
Holotype - length 77 µm, breadth 67 µm. Length of apical protrusion c. 5 µm, thorns 4-6 µm. Range - length 68-84 µm, breadth 64-78 µm.
