Circulodinium deflandrei
Circulodinium deflandrei, Alberti, 1961
Tax. jr. synonym of Cyclonephelium distinctum Deflandre and Cookson, 1955, according to Millioud, 1969. Helby, 1987, retained Circulodinium deflandrei as a separate species, Harker and Sarjeant in Harker et al., 1990, considered this species to be a tax. jr. synonym of Cyclonephelium (as Circulodinium) distinctum - however, Fauconnier and Londeix in Fauconnier and Masure (2004, p.114) retained Circulodinium deflandrei.

Description:
Shell flattened, outline nearly circular, small apical protrusion. Hypotheca at the apex slightly indented resulting in two good developed antapical bulges, one may be reduced. Surface of shell covered with numerous short spines, central parts of dorsal and ventral sides and antapical indentation smooth.
Membrane yellow-brown and transparent. Spines may be connected at the bases.
Dimensions:
Holotype - length 77 µm, breadth 67 µm. Length of apical protrusion c. 5 µm, thorns 4-6 µm. Range - length 68-84 µm, breadth 64-78 µm.
Tax. jr. synonym of Cyclonephelium distinctum Deflandre and Cookson, 1955, according to Millioud, 1969. Helby, 1987, retained Circulodinium deflandrei as a separate species, Harker and Sarjeant in Harker et al., 1990, considered this species to be a tax. jr. synonym of Cyclonephelium (as Circulodinium) distinctum - however, Fauconnier and Londeix in Fauconnier and Masure (2004, p.114) retained Circulodinium deflandrei.
