Original description: [Cookson and Eisenack, 1982] (translated from German):
Cleistosphaeridium paucifurcatum n. sp.
Plate 8, Figs. 5, 6
Type: The specimen shown on Plate 8, Fig. 5, preserved in specimen Rivernook R 3.
Diagnosis: Shell spherical, with numerous medium-length, thin, and full appendages, which are simple, rarely multiple, and broadly forked at the end.
Dimensions: Typical: Spherical shell approx. 57 μ, total approx. 80 μ. Paratypoid: Spherical shell approx. 65 x 67 μ, total approx. 98 x 100 μ. Appendages of approximately 13-20 μ.
Note: Cl. paucifurcatum is distinguished from other species of the genus Cleistosphaeridium by its thin, full, and only moderately forked appendages at the end.
Occurrence: Rivernook Bed, Victoria; Paleocene.
