Cordosphaeridium fibroferum
From Fensome et al., 2019:
Cordosphaeridium? fibroferum Cookson and Eisenack, 1982, p.40, pl.5, figs.6–9. Holotype: Cookson and Eisenack, 1982, pl.5, fig.7. Questionable assignment: Cookson and Eisenack (1982, p.40). Lentin and Williams (1985, p.71) considered Florentinia verdieri to be a possible taxonomic junior synonym of this species. Age: Albian–Cenomanian.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Original description: [Cookson and Eisenack, 1982] (translated from German):
Cordosphaeridium fibroferum n. sp.
Plate 5, 6-9
Type: The specimen shown on Plate 5, Fig. 7, preserved in Balcatta B. XXXV.
Diagnosis: Spherical in shape, with a strongly fibrous surface and numerous, mostly approximately parallel, narrow, also fibrous appendages. However, these never reach the width of those in C. fibrospinosum. At the end, they are irregularly bordered, sometimes slightly broadened, sometimes irregularly serrated, due to the unequal length of the fibrous sections. Their bases are connected by the fibrous structure of the surface.
Material and dimensions: 5 specimens. Type: Central shell approximately 92 μ wide, total approximately 133 μ wide. The dimensions of the remaining specimens range between approximately 78 and 104 μ, and 114 and 142 μ, respectively.
Remarks: The assignment to the genus Cordosphaeridium is questionable; it is based solely on the structure of the appendages, which is quite characteristic of Cordosphaeridium.
Occurrence: All specimens come from the Balcatta No. 1 borehole, from a depth of 570 ft, with the exception of the type (Fig. 7), for which a depth of 370 ft is given (typographical error? 570 ft?).
