Coronifera minor
Coronifera minus (Yu Jingxian and Zhang Wangping, 1980) emend. Mao Shaozhi and Norris, 1988
Originally Diphyes, subsequently (and now) Coronifera.
At the time of the transfer, Mao Shaozhi and Norris, 1988, emended the diagnosis of this species.
Holotype: Yu Jingxian and Zhang Wangping, 1980, pl.4, fig.5
Age: Cenomanian-Santonian
Original description Yu Jingxian and Zhang Wangping, 1980 [translation Suning Hou 2025]:
Diphyes minor sp. nov
Holotype: Slide number W3-7C, Plate IV, Figure 4.
Description: The cyst measures 39.1-43.7 µm in length, with the holotype measuring 39.1 µm, and 43.7-48.3 µm in width, with the holotype width being 43.7 µm. The antapical horn measures 11-13.8 µm in length, with the holotype measuring 11 µm, and 7-9.2 µm in width, with the holotype width being 7 µm. The small processes measure 9.2-13.8 µm in length. The cyst body is nearly round and small, with the periphragm giving rise to numerous small processes, numbering over 50. These processes are long, slender, slightly wider at the base, tapering distally, and slightly swollen at the tip. The cingulum is narrow, and the processes at the cingulum are wider than those posterior to it. The apical horn is smaller than the other processes. The processes are hollow, with their tips either flaring open or remaining closed. The antapical horn is large, hollow, and sometimes splits into finger-like projections at the tip.
Comparison: The new species has a smaller central body, distinguishing it from other species of this genus.
Stratigraphy: Uytak-Kukbay Formation乌依塔克–库克拜组
Emended diagnosis: Mao Shaozhi and Norris, 1988, p. 36
Cyst skolochorate, with two types of processes. Central body spherical to subspherical and of small to medium size (29-44 Ám in diameter). Wall thin. Periphragm smooth to finely granulate, bearing numerous processes. One large tubelike process located at antapex; process hollow, lagenate or denticulate distally, and 10-15 Ám long, 7-15 Ám wide at base. All other processes simple, slender, and acuminate; typically solid and closed distally; approximately uniform in length (about 10 Ám) and appearance; expanded and occasionally joined proximally by low crests. Those processes 1-2 Ám wide basally, straight or slightly curved, and typically closed distally. Cingulum, when discernible, indicated by alignment of processes. Archeopyle variable; type P or (tA + P) or tA + (P)a; compound operculum with precingular plate or apical plate attached.
