Coronifera monstruosa (Tasch, 1964) Stover and Evitt, 1978

Originally Hystrichosphaeridium, subsequently Diphyes?, thirdly Coronifera.
Taxonomic senior synonym: Coronifera oceanica, according to Below (1982c, p.5) - however, Fauconnier in Fauconnier and Masure (2004, p.176) retained Hystrichosphaeridium (as Diphyes?) monstruosum.

Original description, Tasch 1964
Diagnosis: irregular ovate capsule with two types of processes, a pair of oppositely positioned, large, club-shaped processes, and numerous filamentous, hair-like processes of variable length.
Measurements: Length, 46 µm; width, 38 µm; length of paired, club-shaped processes, 18 µm; maximum diameter of these processes, 9 µm; maximum flare width, 15 µm; length of filamentous processes, 6-10 µm; diameter of filamentous processes less than 1 µm; density of filamentous processes, 2+ per 5 µm of edge.
Holotype: WU-DF 0125. Slide no. 1035. Coordinates: R 47.5, D 17+.
Locality: sampling interval 4-I-L.
