Cyclonephelium asperum
Cyclonephelium asperum (Singh, 1971) Below, 1981
Now Circulodinium. Originally Canningia, subsequently Canningia?, thirdly Epelidosphaeridia, fourthly Cyclonephelium, fifthly (and now) Circulodinium.
Holotype: Singh, 1971, pl.50, fig.1
Age: Middle Albian
Description: Test roughly five sided and widest at the equator; length and breadth of the body almost equal; body with one apical and two antapical, barely deiscernable prominences indicated by slight projections in the outline and thicker ornamentation; cingulum faint, bordered on either side by a row of closely spaced, fine spinules; archeopyle apical and opening along a downwardly directed curved line; body ornamented by thick, irregular-shaped elevations surmounted by 2- t 4-micron long, conical spines; body wall about 2.5 microns thick. Size range: Length of the test (4 specimens) 96(100)105 microns. Holotype 100 microns. Breadth of the test (4 specimens) 94(97)103 microns. Holotype 98 microns. Distribution: Middle Albian. Cadotte Member of the Peace River area. Remarks: Canningia aspera n. sp. differs from Canningia rotundata Cookson and Eisenack, 1961, which has a vermiculate surface ornamentation and a slight, median, antapical prominence, and lacks the cingulum. The specific name has been derived from ‘aspera’ (rough, uneven) and refers to the rough surface of the test. Type locality: Cadotte Member, section 7.
