Cyclonephelium barbiferum
From Fensome et al., 2019:
Cyclonephelium? barbiferum Cookson and Eisenack, 1982, p.42, pl.7, figs.8–9. Holotype: Cookson and Eisenack, 1982, pl.7, fig.9; Fensome et al., 2019a, fig.15I. NOW Circulodinium. Originally Cyclonephelium?, subsequently (and now) Circulodinium. Questionable assignment: Cookson and Eisenack (1982, p.42). Age: Albian–Cenomanian.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Original description: [Cookson and Eisenack, 1982] (translated from German):
Cyclonephelium barbiferum n. sp.
Plate 7, Figs. 8, 9.
Type: The specimen shown on Plate 7, Fig. 9 and preserved in the Balcatta 170 ft. No. 3 specimen.
Diagnosis: Shape roughly circular to slightly elliptical, with a short cluster of tuft-like appendages that leave fairly large central, apical, and antapical areas exposed and are mainly laterally developed, but without sharp demarcation. The appendages are simple, branched, or broadened many times at the ends. They often form small tufts.
Apically, openings are present that do not match in shape in the two specimens, but which can be considered archaeopylene, the edges of which appear to be broken away.
Material and Dimensions: Two specimens; The type measures approximately 95 x 88 μ, the paratype approximately 100 x 78 μ; the appendages are approximately 5 μ long.
Occurrence: In the Balcatta Bore, at 170 ft.
