Original description (Deflandre, 1935) Translation PKB 2025:
Very close to these Hystrichosphaera, seems to me the new genus Hystrichosphaeropsis, represented by a species, H. ovum n. sp., whose various polar aliform expansions are very reminiscent of those of Hystrichosphaera wetzeli Defl. In Hystrichosphaeropsis, on the other hand, I have seen neither well-defined plates, capable of being counted and discriminated to establish a tabulation, nor any trace of an equatorial arrangement evoking a furrow. There are, however, in this equatorial region of Hystrichosphaeropsis, some short, aligned forked processes, as well as a tendency of the polar membranous expansions to come to an end there by bending.
