Diphyes ficusoides Islam, 1983b, differs from D. colligerum in having an inflated antapical process, which is distinctively broad with biconvex ambitus with fig-like shape. The process is open distally. Size: cyst length 28-37 µm, width 29-41 µm, processes 11-19 µm, antapical process length 17-21 µm, width 16-20 µm.

Cyst subspherical, skolochorate and biphragmal; phragma adpressed; periphragm chagrinate or reticulate; many nontabular tubular processes tapering from broad circular bases to narrow necks before ending in distal aculeation or wider rims, proximally closed, distally open but rarely a few processes closed, a few neighboring pairs sometimes proximally joined; antapical process inflated, distinctively broad with biconvex ambitus in all lateral views with figlike appearance. Antapical process rises from a circular base, proximally closed, distally open but constricted with maximum width at base or mid-length; archeopyle apical type (tA).
Dimensions. Holotype: cyst body 28 x 36 Ám (without operculum), length of processes 15-17 Ám, length of antapical process 21 Ám, maximum width of antapical process 20 Ám. Range: cyst length 37(33)28 Ám, breadth 41(35)29 Ám, length of processes 11-19 Ám, length of antapical process 21(19)17 Ám, maximum width of antapical process 20(18)16 Ám. Specimens measured: 10.
Affinities:
Islam, 1983, p. 338: The species has been previously recorded by a few workers as D. colligerum and it resembles that species except in the morphology of the antapical process. It is bell-shaped or cylindro-conical in D. colligerum, but it is fig-shaped with biconvex ambitus in all lateral views in D. ficusoides. The latter is separated because of its stratigraphic significance, and it is stratigraphically younger.

These specimens occur just below the first typical D. ficusoides, and their morphology is transitional between this species and Diphyes colligerum. The antapical process is inflated like in D. fucusoides, but somewhat bell-shaped with rudimentary tubuli some distance above the base, like in D. colligerum.

The shape of the antapical process is almost similar to that of Diphyes ficusoides. The specimens differ from D. ficusoides in the arrangement of the processes, which is clearly paratabular. The base of the large process is angular and delineates the antapical paraplate. Precingular, cingular and postcingular paraplates with groups of intratabular, small processes can be identified.
