Thalassiphora dynamica
From Fensome et al., 2019:
Thalassiphora dynamica (Morgenroth, 1966a, p.27–28, pl.6, figs.7–8) Stover and Evitt, 1978, p.195.
Holotype: Morgenroth, 1966a, pl.6, fig.8.
Originally Erikania, subsequently (and now) Thalassiphora.
Taxonomic junior synonym: Thalassiphora (as and now Disphaeria) munda, according to Yun Hyesu (1981, p.70) — however, Lentin and Williams (1985, p.353) retained Disphaeria munda.
Age: Early Eocene.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Original description: [Morgenroth, 1966a] (translated from German):
Erikania dynamica n. sp.
Pl. 6 Fig. 7-8
Holotype: The specimen shown on Pl. 6 Fig. 8 and preserved in specimen H 59.
Paratypoids: H98, H99, H101, H102, H104.
Typical location: Fehmarn, Katharinenhof.
Typical stratum: Lower Eocene (?2).
Description: (In addition to the genus diagnosis): The delicate-walled, colorless central capsule is ellipsoidal in shape. Its surface is smooth. The capsule is concentrically surrounded by a very delicate, structureless outer shell. This shell is connected to the central capsule by funnel-like invaginations that narrow proximally into a tube-like shape. The outer shell is not continuous; rather, areas with a rounded outline are left out, into which irregularly distributed, extremely thin, branched threads formed from the outer membrane protrude (see Fig. 7). Several specimens exhibit an elongated trapezoidal opening in the inner capsule, which can be considered a pyloma.
Mall e: Capsule length 34μ (31μ/36μ), capsule width 27μ (25μ/28μ), specimen 70μ (64μ/75μ), pyloma 11μ x 14μ (25 measurements). Number of specimens examined: 35.
