Parvocysta barbata
Parvocysta barbata Bjµrke, 1980
Holotype: Bjµrke, 1980, pl.1, figs.10,14,15
Locus typicus: Brentskardhaugen, Spitsbergen
Stratum typicum: Toarcian
Original diagnosis: Bjµrke, 1980, p. 65
Dinoflagellate cysts of the genus Parvocysta with a deep equatorial constriction, epicyst tapering towards apex, antapex broadly rounded to flat. Surface ornamented with scattered, flexible processes 3-6 µm long, sometimes with short branches near terminations. Equatorial depression without processes. Paracingulum represented by the equatorial constriction.
Size: 23-33 µm long, 17-27 µm wide.
Original description: Bjµrke, 1980, p. 65
Small dinoflagellate cysts with an hour-glass shaped outline caused by a deep equatorial constriction. Apical area narrow sometimes ending in a short, blunt horn. Antapex broadly rounded or flat. Cyst wall single layered, ornamented with flexible processes 3-6 µm long, sometimes branching near terminations into 2 to 4 short branches. Ornamentation most characteristic on hypocyst and just anterior to paracingular constriction. Paracingular constriction without processes.
Paratabulation except for archeopyle not indicated. Archeopyle intercalary, outline hexagonal with posterior and anterior angulations (geniculate), formed by one mid-dorsal intercalary paraplate. Parasulcus not indicated.
Affinities:
Bjµrke, 1980, p. 65: P. barbata is closely similar to P. contracta except for ornamentation.
