Originally Polystephanosphaera, subsequently Systematophora.
Taxonomic senior synonym: Hystrichosphaeridium (as and now Surculosphaeridium?) vestitum, according to Courtinat (1989, p.173) — however, Stancliffe and Sarjeant (1990, p.209) retained Polystephanosphaera (as and now Systematophora) valensii.

Original diagnosis: Sarjeant, 1960, p. 142: Polystephanosphaera valensii
A species of Polystephanosphaera having processes of very varied form, bifurcate or ramifying, slender or widened, sometimes linked to adjacent processes in the same group either at the base or by trabeculae at some point along its length (but never at the outer extremity). 12 to 16 rings of processes present.
Original description: Sarjeant, 1960, p. 142: Polystephanosphaera valensii
Shell spheroidal, yellowish in colour, its surfacegranular. There is some suggestion of a circular outline on the shell surface at the position of origin of each group of processes.
Dimensions: Type: overall diameter 100 µm. Diameter of shell 62 µm, processes c. 20 µm long. Range observed: overall diameters 80 to 110 µm.
