Rhaetogonyaulax arctica subsp. maculata
Rhaetogonyaulax arctica ssp. maculata (Wiggins, 1973) Stover and Evitt, 1978
Originally Shublikodinium arcticum var. maculatum, subsequently Shublikodinium
arcticum ssp. maculatum, thirdly (and now) Rhaetogonyaulax arctica ssp. maculata.
Holotype: Wiggins, 1973, pl.2, fig.10
Locus typicus: North Slope of Alaska
Stratum typicum: Late Triassic
Original diagnosis: Wiggins, 1973, p.4: Shubikodinium arcticum ssp. maculatum
Same as for the genus with the following additional description, The cyst wall of this variety is characteristically covered with medium-relief, coarse grana and verrucae. This ornamentation is rather uniformly scattered over the entire cyst wall. Occasionally, a slight thickening is exhibited also at the plate margins. S. arcticum var. maculatum has a coarser, slightly more verrucate ornamentation than S. arcticum, and a less coarse, less verrucate ornamentation than S. verrucosum.
