Rhaetogonyaulax uncinata Fisher and Van Helden, 1979

Tax. jr. synonym of Rhaetogonyaulax rhaetica (Sarjeant, 1963) Loeblich Jr. and Loeblich III, 1968, according to Below, 1987.

Stratum typicum: Middle Norian-Rhaetian

Original diagnosis: Fisher and Van Helden, 1979, p. 274
Same as for the genus with the following additional description: The cyst wall has a spinose ornamentation of small spines, approximately 1.5 µm long, bifurcating at the tip, in an intratabular to possibly penetabular arrangement, covering the entire cyst. Archaeopyle formation is by the loss of A4 + 51 (Text-Figure 3B) with the paraplates la and/or 5a sometimes loosely attached to the precingular series. Epicystal paratabulation: 1(?2)pr, 6 ", 5a, 7".
Holotype: Length 57 µm, width 41 µm. Paratypes: (Five specimens measured) length 58-65 µm, width 42-47 µm.

Affinities:
Fisher and Van Helden, 1979, p. 274: Archaeopyle formation is similar to R. testacea (A4" + 5I) Text-Figure 3B. R. uncinata differs from all other species of Rhaetogonyaulax in possessing a distinct spinose intratabular (to possibly penetabular) ornamentation.
