Originally Hystrichosphaera cingulata var. granulata, subsequently Spiniferites cingulatus ssp. granulatus, thirdly Spiniferites? cingulatus ssp. granulatus, fourthly (and now) Pterodinium cingulatum ssp. granulatum.

Locus typicus: Isle of Wight, Southern Cliff, England
Stratum typicum: Cenomanian
Original diagnosis: Clarke and Verdier, 1967, p.45-46: Hystrichosphaera cingulata var. granulata
A variety of H. cingulata having distinct, densely packed granules or low verrucae on the plates; the ledges are smooth.
Dimensions: Holotype: Overall length 51 µm, overall breadth 49 µm, height of ledges 8 µm. Range: Overall length 48-56 µm, overall breadth 43-50 µm, height of ledges 5-8 µm.
Originally Hystrichosphaera cingulata var. granulata, subsequently Spiniferites cingulatus ssp. granulatus, thirdly Spiniferites? cingulatus ssp. granulatus, fourthly (and now) Pterodinium cingulatum ssp. granulatum.
