Spiniferites antistatus

Spiniferites antistatus Islam, 1983

Holotype: Islam, 1983, pl.4, figs.4-5
Locus typicus: London Clay, Division E, england
Stratum typicum: Early Eocene

Original diagnosis Islam, 1983, p.244
The cyst is subspherical, as broad as long or broader, skolochorate and biphragmal; the endophragm is upto 5 µm thick, strongly reticulate and rarely microreticulate; the periphragm is thin and chagrinate; possesses hollow gonal processes which are proximally joined by septa of variable heights, the septa may swing between processes then connecting them neck to neck, the septa rise from penitabular areas and join into single septum above parasutures leaving a canal-like hollowness of triangular cross-section along parasutures (pandasutural canals ?) that communicates to the exterior through distally open processes; some processes may be distally closed; all processes are distally trifurcate often with bifid extremities; paratabulation 3", 6"", 6c, 5-6""", 1p, 1"""", xs; the archeopyle is precingular type P and represents paraplate 3"".
Dimensions: Holotype: cyst body 68x68 µm, length of processes 17-20 µm. Range: cyst length 83 (64)47 µm, breadth 78(64)53 the length of processes 10-20 µm. Specimens measured 10.

Remarks:
Islam, 1983, p.244
It differs from other species of the genus in possessing what looks like "pandasutural canals". It resembles S. crassipellis (Deflandre and Cookson) in possessing thick and reticulate endophragm but differs in having well developed processes and well defined paratabulation.
