Spiniferites aracajuensis
Spiniferites aracajuensis (Regali et al., 1974) Lentin and Williams, 1981
Originally Hystrichosphaeridium, subsequently (and now) Spiniferites.
Holotype: Regali et al., 1974, pl.24, fig.6
Age: Paleocene-Early Eocene
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Original description: [Regali et al., 1974] (translated from Portugese):
Hystrichosphaeridium aracajuensis sp. n. -- Est. XXIV, no. 6.
Derivation: Species name derived from the city of Aracaju, Aracaju, capital of the state of Sergipe, Brazil.
Diagnosis: Capsule: Central reticulate capsule, reticulate, with numerous reticulate and bifurcated processes at the ends.
Holotype: Type slide no. 102-Est. XXIV, no. 6.
Diameter: 56µ, including spines.
Type locality: Well 3-GA-1-SES (Guaricema, Sergipe Submarine) 930-960 m.
Description: Spherical central capsule, 50 to 60µ in diameter with a fine reticulum. Numerous short radial processes, reticulate toward the bifurcated ends. Comparison: Differs from H. bahiaensis sp. n. in the shorter length of the processes and the presence of a reticulum.
Distribution: Proxapertitcs operculatus Superzone.
Age: Paleocene to Early Eocene.
Occurrence: Continental shelf of Sergipe and Sergipe/Alagoas Basin.
