Conosphaeridium striatoconus
Conosphaeridium striatoconus, (Deflandre and Cookson, 1955), Cookson and Eisenack, 1969
Originally Hystrichosphaeridium, subsequently Baltisphaeridium, thirdly Litosphaeridium?, fourthly (and now) Conosphaeridium.
Holotype: Deflandre and Cookson, 1955, text-fig.36
Locus typicus: Gingin, W Australia
Stratum typicum: Middle Senonian
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Original description as Hystrichosphaeridium striatoconus: [Deflandre and Cookson, 1955, p. 275]:
Description:
Shell rather robust and thick-walled, globular to sphaeroidal, ornamented with about 20 bluntly pointed conical processes, the apex of which is normally closed but is frequently broken off, leaving a direct opening in the process. Each cone is provided with a number of strong ribs that are thicker at the base and tapper towards but do not reach the apex; some of the ribs extend to about half the height of the cone, others stop 3-4 µm from the summit.
The shell generally has a polygonal or rounded opening.
Surface of shell smooth.
Dimensions:
Shell alone 52-57 µm, cones 12-18 µm.

Notes:
G.L. Williams short notes on species, Mesozoic-Cenozoic dinocyst course, Urbino, Italy, May 17-22, 1999 - LPP VIEWER CD-ROM 99.5.
Conosphaeridium striatoconus (Deflandre and Cookson, 1965) Cookson and Eisenack, 1969, is thick-walled, with about 20 bluntly pointed conical processes, which are usually closed distally, but frequently broken off. Each process has a number of strong ribs that are thicker at the base and taper towards but do not reach the tip.
Size: Central body 52-57 µm, processes 12-18 µm.
Originally Hystrichosphaeridium, subsequently Baltisphaeridium, thirdly Litosphaeridium?, fourthly (and now) Conosphaeridium.
